President Unity and his minions in the White House communications office are mocking senators who dare to praise some funding for broadband expansion in their states though in 2021, though they did not vote for the infrastructure bill. Senator John Cornyn, for one, is speaking up.
During Biden’s campaign event in Chicago, he spoke for the first time about Bidenomics. The name is a play on Reaganomics and Biden says he didn’t invent the term. But, he’s happy to embrace it. The general public is deeply discouraged by this administration’s economic policies but Biden is singing a happy tune. In his world, everything is great and it is all because of him. He is pulling all sorts of things into the Bidenomics category, including the ghastly bi-partisan infrastructure bill passed in 2021. That’s right – 2021. This is 2023 and two years later, he has to reach back to 2021 to find something to boast about. He thinks you are stupid. Everything is fine, move along.
One of the parts of the infrastructure bill was funding for expanding broadband in states. Biden was crowing about that – he’s just like FDR, you know. He likes saying that the bill passed with bi-partisan support. That’s because it is so rare. At the time, both Texas Senators Cornyn and Cruz voted against the bill.
The funding announced this week is part of a $42 billion grant program created in the infrastructure law and a key piece of what the administration is calling “Bidenomics,” which they describe as directing government spending priorities to advance the middle class.
At a White House event Monday touting the internet money, Biden compared it to the FDR-era program that brought electricity to the far corners of the country. When combined with other funding, the broadband program will connect every American to reliable, high-speed internet by 2030, Biden said.
“It’s the biggest investment in high-speed internet ever, because for today’s economy to work for everyone, internet access is just as important as electricity was, or water, or other basic services,” Biden said.
Now that the money is coming to the states, Biden noted that some of those who voted no now praise the grants for their states. He specifically name-checked Cornyn and Senator Tommy Tuberville during his speech in Chicago Wednesday. So, Cornyn responded.
“You bet I did 1) because it was not paid for and thus grew the debt and 2) fueled inflation that is robbing Texans and other Americans of their standard of living,” Cornyn tweeted. “Broadband is important, but you don’t solve one problem by creating two more. There is a better way.”

His aides also pointed out that in 2020 Cornyn made a point of saying that a retweet doesn’t mean endorsement of the tweet. Sometimes it is meant to start conversations.
Chad, much of the time I tweet to provoke thought and discussion, and occasionally to expose hypocrisy. A retweet does not necessarily mean I agree with it. https://t.co/4v7O65kziR

Biden can do speeches with happy talk to campaign supporters who applaud his words like trained seals. He has no idea what he is saying most of the time, just reading a teleprompter or his notes, usually badly. He is very unpopular, as are his economic policies that are hurting the middle and lower classes, those he claims to be helping the most. Bidenflation preceded any gains he thinks Bidenomics has made. The high cost of everyday purchases negates any financial gains families are reaping with the current jobs market. Biden isn’t fooling anyone.
