Prince Harry will attend his father's coronation ... without Meghan

Until now it was not known if Prince Harry and Meghan would attend his father’s coronation. The announcement has been made – Harry will attend while Meghan remains at their California home with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. All things considered, it’s probably the best decision that could have been made.

Buckingham Palace must be breathing a sigh of relief. The Duchess of Drama will be elsewhere while the king’s sons witness their father’s coronation. It’s a big deal and the king deserves to have his two sons present. Is that too much to ask?

Harry and Meghan were contacted via email a month ago. Since then the question has been whether or not Harry and Meghan would show up. It will be the first time Harry will have been seen with the Royal Family since the release of his memoir, Spare.

Prince Harry and Meghan issued a statement along the same lines as the palace.

It said: “The Duke of Sussex will attend the Coronation service at Westminster Abbey on May 6th. The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.”

Neither the couple’s spokeswoman nor Buckingham Palace would comment on the decision.

Harry will be one of more than 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey on May 6. The day is also Prince Archie’s 4th birthday. It’s a shame Harry will miss the day with Archie but it’s always the children who suffer when their parents act badly. Meghan’s selfish behavior is causing her to sit this event out and she’s keeping the kids with her. If the family was behaving well, they would all go. Imagine the birthday memories Archie would have if he attended the festivities. Even if he and his sister are too young to attend the official ceremony, there would be other opportunities for time together. Instead, he’ll celebrate without his dad.

It is not yet clear what role, if any, Harry will have in the coronation ceremony.

As he is no longer a “working royal”, it remains to be seen what part Prince Harry will play in the coronation ceremony. For the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Prince Harry and Meghan did not take part in the traditional appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

It is expected that Prince William, as Prince of Wales, will have a prominent role in the coronation – and after Prince Harry’s dramatic account of their falling out there will be attention on the two brothers coming together again.

As well as the coronation service there is a long weekend of public events and concerts which the Royal Family will be expected to attend.

The reports are that Harry agonized over his decision. How sad. He is worried about the deep riff in his family. You know, the one he caused by publishing his memoir. At the age of 38, he knew what he was doing. He just didn’t care. And the money was good, too. Now Meghan is using the occasion of Archie’s birthday to stay home.

Meghan has not returned to the UK since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September. She will remain at the couple’s home in Montecito, California, with the couple’s two children, three-year-old Archie and Lilibet, aged one.

Many factors influenced the Duchess’s decision not to attend the Coronation, but chief among them was the desire to celebrate Archie’s fourth birthday, which falls on the same day – May 6 – The Telegraph understands.

Archie and Lilibet were not formally invited to the Coronation as Buckingham Palace aides waited to hear whether they would make the trip before factoring them into any plans.

Meghan will somehow twist the story into one where she is the heroine, likely the long-suffering heroine. It’s all so ridiculous and needlessly hurtful to the royal family. It’s easy to understand why the Brits have had enough of both of them.

Apparently, Harry feels owed an apology from his family. He said he wanted to reconcile with his father and brother during a television interview in January when he demanded an apology. There hasn’t been contact between the two sides since then, though, and both Charles and William feel betrayed by Harry’s revelations in his book and the interviews that followed.

What a mess.

Harry should go. If for no other reason, he owes it to his family. He’s too old to act like such a spoiled brat.
