Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Unauthorized Alien Transport Program into law on Wednesday. The new immigration program allows the DeSantis administration to relocate illegal migrants from anywhere in the country to sanctuary cities and states.

When the Florida Senate passed the law on Friday, it was sent to DeSantis for final approval. He said he would sign it into law after a review of the bill’s final form. It formally creates the program which unofficially launched last year. It allows government officials to relocate migrants from any state in the country, not just from Florida. DeSantis gave his approval to two planes filled with migrants who were apprehended in Texas to fly to Martha’s Vineyard. At the time, it created a kerfuffle because the money set aside by the Florida Legislature in their last session specified that the funds be used to transport illegal aliens who were in Florida. The migrant flights out of Texas landed in Florida and then took off from there to Martha’s Vineyard.

DeSantis released a brief statement on Twitter that indicates more migrant flights are likely on the horizon.

DeSantis is expected to enter the GOP presidential primary after the Florida Legislature completes its work. Illegal immigration and Biden’s border crisis is a hot-button issue with conservative and independent voters. Look for DeSantis to use this program to help border state governors keep the porous border and all of the problems that come with it for their communities in the public’s eye.

The migrant flights to Martha’s Vineyard shined a light on liberal hypocrisy in the sanctuary city and state debate. Democrat-led cities and states preach about acceptance and compassion and welcoming everyone until about 50 illegal migrants show up. In Martha’s Vineyard, cameras rolled as the locals made a big show of welcoming the migrants, creating an almost festive atmosphere. In a matter of hours, the migrants were given bowls of cereal and bussed off to a nearby military facility. The governor deployed National Guard troops to get the migrants on the buses and drive them away. There was just no room for the brown people, mostly from Venezuela, on the fancy resort island, even though it was the off-season and there were plenty of empty rooms on the island.

The Florida program is meant to protect Floridians from the problems illegal immigration can create.

The bill aims to shield Floridians from ‘increased crime, diminished economic opportunities and wages for American workers, and burdens on the education and health care systems,’ according to its text.

It also accuses the Biden administration of having ‘failed to secure the nation’s border.’

Most asylum-seekers crossing the border illegally say they are looking for jobs and a better life. That is not a legal reason to be granted asylum. Their desire for a better life does not supersede the lives of legal American residents. They should not be rewarded with the ability to begin a new life while jumping the line over those who are coming to the United States legally. In the meantime, border communities and states should not be burdened with providing the services the migrants need. Healthcare facilities are overwhelmed, school districts are expected to provide education, and someone has to feed, clothe, and house them. Local communities and states are on the hook financially for all that as long as the Biden administration refuses to step up and close the southern border and provide border states with the resources needed for the flood of migrants crossing the border.

The financial toll on states adds up quickly. The Florida Legislature approved $12 million in funding to establish the transportation program for illegal migrants late last year. The new program authorizes an additional $10 million.

The Biden administration and other open border advocates criticize border governors for acting when Biden refuses to do so.

‘ Instead of working with us on solutions, Republicans are playing politics with human beings, using them as props,’ the president said in September last year.

We’ll see how DeSantis implements the program. Perhaps he will fly some illegal migrants to that nice beach community in Delaware. It looks like the Biden beach mansion has plenty of room for visitors.
