Canadian immigration official "surprised" NYC mayor is sending migrants to Canada

Quebec immigration minister Christine Fréchette said it was ‘surprising’ to learn that NYC Mayor Eric Adams was busing migrants to the Canadian border. Adams recently proved what a hypocrite he is when, after criticizing border states for bussing migrants to sanctuary cities like New York City, he began giving migrants tickets to Canada. Now Adams says he is just helping migrants get to where they want to go.

It turns out that the illegal aliens don’t like New York City very much. Some of them complain about the drugs and homeless people and the crime that has taken over the city. They think that heading up to Canada to seek asylum will be the answer to a quieter, safer life. Adams is happy to accommodate them. He provides bus tickets to the Canadian border and from there they get a ride to where they are just steps from a Canadian crossing.

Maybe Eric Adams didn’t bother to notify Canadian officials that he was busing the migrants to their country. That would be even more hypocritical of him because one of his big gripes about border state governors sending migrants to NYC is that the governors didn’t coordinate with him or let him know the migrant buses are coming. Surely he wouldn’t do the same thing, right?

Quebec immigration minister Christine Fréchette called on her nation to crack down on an unofficial border crossing south of Montreal that migrants are entering from New York after being transported there by Adams’ program, the BBC reports.

The controversial program sees National Guard soldiers at the Big Apple’s Port Authority bus terminal handing out free tickets to a shuttle bound for the northern border.

Fréchette also urged Canadian officials to speed up talks in renegotiating the Safe Third Country Agreement, which requires migrants to make an asylum claim in the first country they enter.

Frechette told reporters that there is a need to solve the problem of Roxham Road. That refers to the unofficial border site between New York and Montreal where the migrants are told to enter Canada. This area sees tens of thousands of migrants illegally crossing every year. Nearly 4,700 people entered Canada through the site last December alone. The new busing program adds to the problem.

Shuttles drop off migrants at Plattsburgh, N.Y. This is where a group, Plattsburgh Cares, gives out free information on how the migrants can take a short taxi ride to Roxham Road and seek asylum in Canada. Roxham Road is not an official border crossing site. It bypasses the Safe Third Country Agreement. This means that migrants can claim Canada as the first country they’ve arrived in to seek asylum. ‘I think it makes the urgency of the situation even more apparent,’ Fréchette said. She wants to crack down on the crossing site and update the agreement.

Adams pleads innocence. He’s just helping the migrants get to where they want to go, you see.

Those who are seeking to go somewhere else, not that we’re pushing or forcing if they’re seeking to go somewhere else, we are helping in the re-ticketing process,’ Adams told Fox News about his program, a partnership with the Catholic Charities group.

‘We found that people had other destinations, but they were being compelled only to come to New York City, and we are assisting in interviewing those who seek to go somewhere else.

‘Some want to go to Canada, some want to go to warmer states, and we are there for them as they continue to move on with their pursuit of this dream.’

The question has arisen – is Adams coordinating to send the migrants to Canada? He denies it. The question was asked several times during a press conference on Tuesday.

“We are not coordinating with anyone to go to Canada. We’re not doing it,” Adams said. “There is no role that the city is playing to tell migrants to go to Canada.”

Adams said the city’s “intake process” for newly arrived migrants included interviews “to find out their needs.”

“And we speak with people, they say they desire to go somewhere else,” he said. “There’s a host of partnerships, with the Catholic Charities to others, that have been coordinating with people to get to their final destination.”

Adams added, “We don’t have a website. We don’t have a recruitment campaign. We’re not telling people to go to another country.” Adams also said that “unlike other municipalities, we are speaking to people to say, ‘What are your needs?’”

“We want to help them connect with their family members,” he added.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), whose district covers Plattsburgh and the Roxham Road border crossing, said that he’s helping migrants break the terms of their release into the US to seek asylum. “New Yorkers deserve answers for why their taxpayer dollars are being spent to help illegal immigrants violate their parole and escape the law.”

That whole sanctuary city thing is all well and good until the illegal aliens start showing up. Next thing you know, hypocritical Democrats are putting them on buses and sending them on their way. Sometimes to a different country.
