The Washington Post reported on a “new revelation” in the story of Republican senatorial candidate Herschel Walker paying for an abortion on Tuesday night. According to WaPo, the woman, still unidentified, had to “press” Walker for payment of the abortion.

The story goes that she became pregnant and Walker told her it wasn’t a good time for a baby so she should get an abortion. She told him she didn’t have the money.

“When I talked to him, I said, ‘You need to send — I can’t afford to pay for this,” the woman said in one of several interviews with The Washington Post in recent days, adding that she also told him: “We did this, too. Both of us did this. We both know how babies are made.”

The woman, who lived in the Atlanta area at the time, said she became pregnant when she was unemployed and had less than $600 in her bank account. Walker sent a $700 check via FedEx about a week after the procedure, the woman said. The Post reviewed an image of the check that was printed on an ATM slip, with Walker’s name, signature and an address associated with him at the time.

It was deposited nine days after the woman said she had an abortion. The Post has reviewed a receipt for $575 at a women’s medical center that day. She said she did not know exactly how much an abortion would cost and estimated the amount she told Walker she would need based on online searches.

The woman and a person in whom she confided at the time both spoke to the Washington Post. The publication claims this part of the story has not been previously reported. It sounds like just another excuse to write an article about the conflicts between this cringeworthy story and the hypocrisy it points to since Walker is adamantly pro-life now. WaPo’s article reports that Walker paid the woman for the abortion, in fact he overpaid for it.

The new revelations deepen questions about Walker’s treatment of women and his children, as well as the conflict between his public opposition to abortion and his alleged private behavior. Walker and his campaign have denied the woman’s claims that he wanted her to have two abortions, and Walker initially claimed he did not know the woman who was making them.

“I know nothing about any woman having an abortion,” Walker said to conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt last week after the Daily Beast first reported the allegation about paying for an abortion. “Had that happened, I would have said it, because it’s nothing to be ashamed of there.”

The woman in whom she confided confirmed that the two conversed about Walker paying for the abortion at the time.

“She was like, ‘I’ll do it as soon as you send the check,’” recalled the person. “And he was like ‘I sent the check.’ And she was like, ‘It’s been seven days. I didn’t get it.’”

At this point, this is the media piling on against the Republican candidate, hoping something will stick and Warnock will win the election in Georgia. Warnock is no jewel himself. Where was WaPo’s concern about the morality of Warnock when it became clear he has about doubled his personal wealth while serving in the Senate and is taking advantage of a sweet, sweet deal on a hefty housing allowance provided by his church? What about in-depth reporting on Warnock’s history of domestic violence and custody battles for his children? His ex-wife claims he ran over her foot with his car.

Warnock has slightly inched ahead of Walker but the race is still a toss-up. The road to control of the Senate runs through Georgia. Democrats are desperate to hold the Senate, especially since they know Republicans will take the House in the midterm elections. The campaign ads are getting very personal.
