Festivus came early: Michael Moore's July 4th message airs grievances but he's not going anywhere

There were lots of reactions to the Independence Day holiday that were expressed in less than traditionally patriotic sentiments from leftists in the entertainment industry. It’s what they do. Their vitriol toward the greatest nation on earth of which they are privileged to be citizens was mostly fueled by their disapproval of the Supreme Court’s latest rulings.

Moore penned a July 4th list of grievances to Substack on Monday. It’s titled “My Declaration” and he leaves no stone unturned. It begins with the pronouncement that he is fed up and his tranquility has been disturbed. Bless his heart. Good thing he is a wealthy man who doesn’t have to sweat purchasing basic necessities like food and gas, as well as paying for housing increases, eh? He “only” lists four points of grievance before he ends with calls to action. By the way, he’s not leaving. Usually celebrities are big on declaring that they are moving out of the country but Moore is staying.

I, Michael Moore, standing up for Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, and being completely fed up with recent events that have upset my tranquility, herby declare the following on this Fourth of July, 2022:

1. I refuse to live in a country threatened by white supremacy — and I’m not leaving. So we‘ve got a problem.

Well, I don’t know who “we” is but I don’t have a problem with Moore’s screed. We hear this stuff all the time, don’t we? Leftists like Moore have large platforms with the ability to reach millions of supporters so they take advantage of that. The problem is that they forget that they live in privileged bubbles. They rely on progressive groupthink for approval and forget that large parts of America just think they have lost their minds. I’m ok with Americans exercising First Amendment rights as long as laws aren’t broken. I expect the same from those who do not agree with me.

Let’s look at the rest of his grievances.

2. I cannot in good conscience continue to receive the privileges of “full citizenship” in this land when all of its women and girls have now been, by Court decree, declared official second-class citizens with no rights to their own bodies and conscripted to a life of Forced Birth should they fall pregnant and not want to be.

3. I demand an end to the mass incarceration of Black Americans, an end to police shooting Black people, and I demand that reparations be made to the Black community for all they currently have to suffer and endure.

4. I insist we remove every single Republican from office in November. The Republican Party has dismantled itself and its remaining rogue elements now exist purely to overturn legitimate election results and overthrow the elected will of the vast majority of the American people. This must be halted without delay or equivocation.

I wonder how he goes about disavowing “full citizenship”. What privileges will he deny himself? Which rights will he do without? Moore conflates reality with Margaret Atwood’s fictional “The Handmaid’s Tale” from 1985. It’s pretty common among pro-abortion people. The anti-police vibe is strong but the demand of reparations is not always heard from the left these days. He doesn’t call for reparations due to slavery but for current alleged suffering. And, the call for removing “every single Republican from office in November”? Good luck, buddy. I’ll be enjoying the red wave that extremists like Moore are helping usher in.

The lessons of Federalism have been real eye-openers for those on the left. The left wants everything to come from Washington, D.C. and now we have a Supreme Court that is making corrections that have been years in the making.

Moore’s calls for action are, frankly, nothing new. He demands that Roe v Wade be fully reinstated and that the ERA become a Constitutional amendment. That time deadline expired years ago, though, so that’s a non-starter. He also demands that Congress is 51% female. That’s sexist, right? Why elevate women over men when they should be equal. Quotas are bad, no matter the purpose.

He says he won’t stop talking about these grievances until he gets some results. He wants to help organize “a massive” get out the vote drive among his millions of social media followers. I would suggest he team up with Stacey Abrams as she has been very successful with that. He wants to tour the country and he has some requirements for candidates he will support. They must pledge to “vote to make Roe v. Wade the law of the land; make gerrymandering and voter suppression illegal; eliminate the filibuster; upgrade Obamacare to Universal Health Care for All; pass strong gun control laws; and end the police executions and racist incarcerations of Black citizens.” Wait until he realizes that Democrats are quite fond of gerrymandering when they control state legislatures.

And, the last item is that he will help lead a national strike. He doesn’t know what kind of strike that might be but he’s up for it. He suggests the possibility of shutting down 10% of the country. It could hit Wall Street, you know.

Entertainment industry people live lives of arrogance and privilege. Will Moore’s Declaration do anything other than allow him to vent on his Substack account? No. People who bother to read it will either nod their head in approval or roll their eyes. I was looking for something new being offered from him, either in action or in opinion, but he comes up short. I expect he will show up on some cable shows as he did on MSNBC after the Uvalde mass shooting at Robb Elementary School. He said he wanted the Second Amendment repealed in response to that tragedy.

Moore has previously made major demands of the country. After a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas, in May, the “Fahrenheit 9/11” director urged the media to call for an end to the Second Amendment.

“We won’t acknowledge that we are a violent people to begin with,” he told MSNBC host Chris Hayes at the time. “This country was birthed in violence with the genocide of the native people at the barrel of a gun. This country was built on the back of slaves with a gun to their back.”

“Who will say on this network or any other network in the next few days, ‘It’s time to repeal the Second Amendment?'” he asked.

In his mind Moore may think he is being bold and brave with his proclamations and demands. He is doing little more than parroting the party talking points, though. His Declaration is boilerplate, at best.
