Liberal advocacy group to George Mason University: Fire Justice Kavanaugh

Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh has been on the bench about six months but #TheResistance still isn’t ready to give up their fight. Kavanaugh has been hired as a visiting professor to teach a summer course in England for George Mason University. The liberal advocacy group, Demand Justice, is determined stop this in its tracks. They have teamed up with student protesters to call for a ban on Kavanaugh on campus.

Demand Justice calls Justice Kavanaugh an “accused sexual assaulter” and it is “unacceptable” that he has a contract with the university. The group is sponsoring a Facebook ad targeting people with ties to the university.

“Brett Kavanaugh has been credibly accused of sexual assault by multiple women whose allegations have not been thoroughly investigated,” Brian Fallon, executive director of Demand Justice, said in a statement. “His confirmation to the Supreme Court does not absolve him of guilt, and he should not be given a platform to teach. We stand with survivors and urge the George Mason University administration to fire Kavanaugh.”

Brian Fallon, you may remember, is Hillary Clinton’s former campaign spokesman. Demand Justice teams up with other liberal groups to push the progressive agenda in Democrat politics. For example, the group was instrumental in the recruitment and campaign of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. She could easily be the group’s poster child, so to speak.

The university campus has been the scene of student protests over Kavanaugh’s hiring. There is an Instagram account devoted to the effort to remove Kavanaugh from campus, and an online petition has garnered over 4,000 signatures. The petition begins by stating the university is negligent in supporting survivors of sexual assault, therefore the administration is not trusted by the student body. Hiring Justice Kavanaugh is just another action (or inaction) taken by the institution that has angered the #MeToo movement on campus.

There is a historic amount of institutional negligence on your part to support survivors of sexual assault and the student body as a whole, which has bred a sense of mistrust and suffering within the Mason community and allies.

These institutional failures have been, but are not limited to the following cases: the hiring of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh as a visiting professor with the Antonin Scalia Law School, the protection of former student body president David Kanos, the lack of urgency and action with the predator recording women in the Innovation restroom, as well as the abundance of other cases where you’ve truly failed survivors and the Mason community.

Their demand list begins with a ban of Kavanaugh on campus and in contracts with the university. He must be banished. It goes on to list a demand to see all information on Kavanaugh’s contract and even an apology from the administration to sexual assault survivors. The university has agreed to one demand — a town hall which University President Angel Cabrera will attend.

However, Cabrera has responded in a blog post to the students and is not caving to the mob mentality. Essentially he politely tells them to get over it. Kavanaugh was confirmed, he reminded them, and a Supreme Court Justice brings a lot to the table towards the education of law students:

“I respect the views of people who disagreed with Justice Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation due to questions raised about his sexual conduct in high school,” Cabrera wrote. “But he was confirmed and is now a sitting Justice. The law school has determined that the involvement of a U.S. Supreme Court Justice contributes to making our law program uniquely valuable for our students. And I accept their judgment.”

Thank goodness there is an adult in charge. This is what the Trump Deranged left does now. Anything and everything with a connection to President Trump must be banned or denied. The latest push from the left is to deny employment to anyone leaving the administration. This push against Kavanaugh falls into that category because he was nominated by Trump.

It strikes me as particularly counter-productive whenever administrators on college campuses cave to student mobs assembled to stop political debate or any expression of conservative thought. The experience during college days of hearing different opinions and learning to think independently is priceless. Also, out in the real world, young people have to know how to coexist with those who don’t hold the same opinions, political or not. It’s called being an adult. Caving into student protests and denying conservatives a place on campus is a formula for failure.

In the case of Justice Kavanaugh, the sexual assault claims against him were not proven. Some of the stories were particularly sketchy and all seemed to be agenda-driven. The left worked to dehumanize Kavanaugh and failed to deny him a spot on the Supreme Court. This intolerance on college campuses must be stopped. The #CancelKavanaugh movement must fail, too.
