A migrant who arrived from Nicaragua in December 2022 has already raped two women, or perhaps I should say at least two women. The most recent incident happened over the weekend in Coney Island.
On Sunday evening, the woman, whose last known address was a shelter, was preparing to sleep on the beach, where she and her boyfriend had been living under the boardwalk for the last two weeks, according to an internal police document. Her boyfriend had left to get coffee, and she was gathering blankets on top of a tarp when Mr. Davon-Bonilla approached her, the document said.
He first offered money in exchange for sex. When she refused, Mr. Davon-Bonilla forced her to the ground, held a knife to her throat and then raped her, the document said. The woman did not know her attacker, the document said.
Her boyfriend returned from his coffee run in the midst of the attack. To his credit he grabbed Davon-Bonilla and pulled him off the woman, but at that Davon-Bonilla's accomplice, Leovando Moreno, came up and him with a pipe. Despite this the boyfriend got away and yelled at bystanders to call the police.
Davon-Bonilla and Moreno were arrested. Davon-Bonilla is now facing charges of first-degree rape, second-degree assault and first-degree sexual abuse. The victim, who isn't being named for obvious reasons, told the NY Post the assault seemed like attempted murder.
“It wasn’t rape, it was attempted murder,” the 46-year-old woman, whom The Post is not identifying, said from Coney Island.
“He didn’t try to rape me, he tried to kill me,” she said. “I kept telling him God was watching him.”
She added: “I hope he gets a long time. I’m afraid he’s going to kill somebody.”
The wrinkle in this particular case is that this is not the first time Davon-Bonilla has raped someone during the relatively short time in this country. Just four months after he arrived in the US he was accused of raping a different woman at a migrant shelter.
Davon-Bonilla was arrested for allegedly raping a woman at a Brooklyn migrant shelter, about four months after he is believed to have made his way illegally across U.S. border into Texas in December 2022...
Davon-Bonilla was jailed at Rikers Island from April 4, 2023, until June 24, 2024 — putting him back on the streets less than two months before Sunday’s attack.
“After he spent over a year in jail and following the victim’s request not to testify in any court proceedings, this defendant was offered a plea of time served and court-managed programming,” a spokesman for Brooklyn DA Eric Gonzalez said Monday.
He faces up to seven years in the earlier case for violating the terms of the deal, the spokesman said.
Given that Davon-Bonilla violated the terms of his plea deal as egregiously as it is possible to do so, he should get the full remainder of the seven years from the previous attack. And given that he's now a two time violent rapist, he should get an equally long stint for the second attack, which as mentioned happened less than two months after he was released the first time.
I already know what those on the left will say about this, assuming they say anything at all. They'll say there's no evidence that illegal immigrants commit more crime than Americans born here. Even if that were true, it doesn't change the fact that this particular migrant has raped two people in 20 months. And again, that's a minimum. For all we know he's attacked other homeless women but wasn't caught.
There is simply no reason this person should be in this country. He should have been deported after the first attack, regardless of whether or not the victim testified. Once he agreed to a plea deal, he should have been on a plane or bus back to Nicaragua. Why didn't that happen? Probably because New York City refused to cooperate with ICE and ensured this guy would remain on the street to commit another attack. I don't know that for certain but it has definitely happened before.
Davon-Bonilla and his friend Leovando Moreno (who is from Mexico) should never walk the streets of the US again. Can we make that happen this time?
