Teachers Like This Should Be Out of a Job

Jason Rantz has been covering this story for at least a month now. A high school history teacher in Seattle named Ian Golash seems to be using his classroom to indoctrinate students with leftist propaganda and even lashing out at students who dare to disagree. A month ago, Rantz reported that Golash had given the class an Understanding Gender vs. Sex quiz and then docked one student for stating that it was true that “only women can get pregnant” and that “all men have penises.”

Question 4 was a true or false question with the statement, “All men have penises.” The student labeled the statement “true” since it is, in fact, true. But the teacher penalized the answer, marking it incorrect. The teacher claims women can have a penis.

Similarly, Question 7 was a true or false question with the statement, “Only women can get pregnant.” Again, the student marked the statement “true” because only women can get pregnant. Again, the teacher penalized the student, insisting the answer is false. The teacher believes men can get pregnant.

The student’s mother wrote to the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH expressing “frustration and anger.” She says she expressed concerns to the school, but was “met with silence.”

Days later Golash made news again, this time for his analysis of Oct. 7 on Facebook:

In a November 27 post, Golash allegedly explained what he understood had happened between October 7 and 9. He asked to be corrected if he was wrong “with evidence, please…”

“Hamas didn’t behead anyone. Hamas didn’t rape anyone. The bodies found charred beyond recognition were made that way either by Israeli tanks, misses, or helicopter gunships… Hamas soldiers were not carrying weapons that could do that kind of damage to human bodies,” the post notes.

Golash is wrong on every point but his personal views online are his own business. Except it appears he’s also been teaching this sort of absurdly biased take to his class.

The comic contextualizes October 7 by explaining that since the Six Day War in 1967, Israel has “occupied the Gaza strip, and ever since it has maintained a tight grip on it and the more than 2 million Palestinians who live there.” (Note: the occupation ended in 2005 and the war was the result of terrorist groups in Arab countries seeking to destroy the Jewish state.)

Children learn that the second intifada was “largely peaceful” until it was met with “excessive force by the Israeli military.” (Note: the Palestinian’s second intifada featured snipers, rockets, and suicide bombers targeting Israel.)

This week, Rantz is back with another installment after Golash assigned his class a social identity worksheet and then told students the use of the term “straight” was offensive.

The worksheet is intended to tell students that their identities determine whether they receive unearned privilege or oppression.

The parent’s 15-year-old son labeled himself “straight.” Golash took issue with that word “because it implies that to not be straight is to be ‘crooked’ which could have a negative connotation.”…

“When filling out a Social Identity Wheel, he (her son) was told that if he identifies as straight that he needed to pick a term that was less offensive. It is completely inappropriate to dictate what terms a student can and cannot use to identify themselves with,” the mom wrote in the September 24, 2023 email.

Golash denied singling out one student (the same student who had written that only women get pregnant on the quiz) but admitted he did say something about “straight” being offensive to the entire class. Of course this is nonsense. Major gay organizations routinely use the term straight and the Seattle high school where this happened has a Gay-Straight Alliance Club.

He also allegedly lashed out at students who he described as a “product of the patriarchy” apparently for disagreeing with him in class. The mother of the student who has been targeted in these incidents told Rantz, “Mr. Golash has introduced many controversial topics into the classroom and instead of inviting open, constructive and truthful conversations, he provides biased resources that only aid in pushing his own ideological agendas.”

The school is now reportedly investigating Golash over the above-mentioned quiz and over his biased teaching of the Israel-Hamas conflict. They aren’t saying how far along that investigation is so far. Clearly, this guy doesn’t belong in a high school classroom. He’s an extremist who is using his position to indoctrinate a captive audience, not to foster discussion allowing for a variety of views. If he wants to do that on Facebook that’s his business but it doesn’t belong in a public school classroom.
