Fourth woman joins civil lawsuit against Andrew Tate

Andrew Tate and his brother still haven’t been charged with any crimes in Romania but they remain under house arrest. Yesterday another woman came forward and joined a civil lawsuit in the UK. The woman, whose real name hasn’t been revealed, claims she met Tate on a night out back in 2014 and that he ultimately raped and choked her until she was unconscious.

The woman, now 30, was at university in 2014 when she says she met Tate while on a night out in his home town of Luton.

“Initially, he was very kind and charming and I ended up going home with him,” the woman said. “While having sex, he began to choke me and choked me so hard that I lost consciousness. I thought I was going to die. When I woke up, he was continuing to rape me. It is difficult to say that because it is so upsetting, but that is what it was.”…

“I am hoping that my story will help other women do the same as it is easier to speak out when you realise that you are not alone,” she said. “Initially, I think I was in denial after it happened … I was young and I think that I probably blamed myself a bit. More recently, and especially following his rise to fame, it became impossible to avoid as he was, and is, everywhere.”

The BBC reports that the woman, who is going by Evie though it’s not her real name, had sex with Tate once when they met and then invited him to her house sometime later in 2014. It was the second meeting where the things got violent.

Evie, now aged 30, claims Mr Tate also subjected her to violent threats, including threatening to kill her, until he left the following morning.

“He kept saying: ‘I own you, you belong to me’,” she says. “All throughout the night he was being fairly aggressive and saying horrible things.” The next day, Evie says the white part of one of her eyes had completely turned red…

Asked by the BBC why she did not go to the police to report a rape, Evie said she did not realise she had been the victim of an alleged crime.

She added: “I think I knew what had happened I didn’t consent to. But I didn’t see it as rape or sexual assault because this was 10 years ago.”

She says it wasn’t until about six years later when she described the alleged incident to her friends that she began to think she had been sexually assaulted.

As mentioned, she’s now the 4th woman to come forward telling stories of abuse from around this same time (2013-2016). Since these are civil cases there’s threat to Tate’s freedom, only to his wallet. I’m sure some will argue that’s all this is about. In fact, a spokesman for Tate is doing exactly that saying that Tate, “is saddened that a few opportunistic women who he has allegedly spent time with nearly a decade ago have decided to try and take advantage of his current situation.” In other words, don’t believe these gold diggers.

Anything’s possible but I don’t really believe that’s the case here or at least I don’t think it should be assumed to be the case based on the word of Andrew Tate. Ultimately, we have to consider each of these claims individually. If a woman has a story that can be verified in certain ways, such as witnesses willing to back up parts of her story, that should matter. In this case, Evie has three friends who have told lawyers involved in the case they are willing to testify that she told them about the assault several years ago. So I guess we’ll see what a jury thinks.
