I started the day writing about a trans woman who was downgraded to being a bad “cis ally” because she suggested on Twitter that trans people needed some better messaging. I’m going to end today writing about a well-known progressive who rejected some trans-inclusive labels for women and got attacked by trans allies for doing so.
Ana Kasparian is a co-host and producer of the Young Turks YouTube show with Cenk Uygur. Today, Kasparian announced on Twitter that she was a woman and that trans-inclusive substitutes for that word were “degrading.”
I'm a woman. Please don't ever refer to me as a person with a uterus, birthing person, or person who menstruates. How do people not realize how degrading this is? You can support the transgender community without doing this shit.
— Ana Kasparian (@AnaKasparian) March 22, 2023
She had a few supporters including Ben Shapiro who retweeted her tweet.
I'm sure a lot of women don't want to be minimized to a bodily function or body part.

Worse than degrading, it’s silly. https://t.co/8ODrhtDNXm

But there were also lots of people warning that she’d just invited a mob of trolls who were going to do their best to tear her apart.
Someone is going to get cancelled soon https://t.co/ZcfONEokC4

This one made me laugh though you probably have to be a certain age to get the reference.

And sure enough it got ugly fast. Lots of blue checks demanding to know who offended her and implying she has nothing to be upset about.
Who, exactly, has referred to you by those terms?
— Parker Molloy (@ParkerMolloy) March 22, 2023
Here’s a leftist reporter for the Intercept calling her the c-word.
No one is calling /you/ directly these terms. Theyre used to describe, collectively, all people that can birth, so the collective/abstract noun doesn’t exclude people in policies etc. Or are you enough of a cunt (oops, degrading?) that you’d like policy in language that excludes? https://t.co/oE8uwOFsiK

She already has a new nickname.
alright AK Rowling chill

And of course she’s being called a TERF.
Ana, that might be one of the most TERF things you could say. JS.

And a transphobe.
Actually thought you were one of the good ones but clearly I was wrong. Buying into the transphobic hysteria and spreading more Ignorance and hate to a minority going through absolute hell right now.. Shameful
— Roly West (@RolyUnGashaa) March 22, 2023
And she’s being called other things.
No worries, we can just call you asshole from now on, since you’ve chosen to pile on the trans community with a taking point you KNOW is rooted in transphobia.
So glad you chose to make this SUPER important point in the midst of historic attacks on trans rights!

I could go on but you get the idea. Still, despite all of the bitter trans allies letting Kasparian have it, the tweet has 46k likes compared to about 8,300 responses. In other words, even on Twitter where trans dogma enforcers are much more common than in real life, she’s not being ratioed. Still, we’ve all see how awful these people can be when they try. They won’t stop today or next week or next month. They will continue to harass Kasparian until she decides to leave Twitter.
Speaking of which, Jesse Singal deleted his Twitter account recently after years of being hounded by the same people.
people every day accuse him of being obviously an anti-trans genocidal monster, and I am not terribly interested in trans stuff but out of curiosity i have now read lots of things he's written about trans stuff just bc i am a fan of drama, and he doesn't seem that anti-trans

i've only met Jesse once in real life but given the circumstances of that meeting—which was a birthday party with every woke firebrand in the world in like 2015 or something—im pretty sure he doesn't hate trans people.
