“America’s comeback starts right now,” Trump said near the start of his speech tonight announcing his intention to run for president again. He described his tenure in the White House saying “everybody was thriving like never before.” He said that by October of 2020 the economy was coming back from Covid. “Inflation was non existent and our southern border was by far the strongest ever,” he said.

Then he talked about foreign policy saying he’s stood up to China and jobs were coming back to America. “China, Russia, Iran and North Korea were in check. They respected the United States,” he said. He also mentioned the destruction of ISIS.

He contrasted that with his assessment of Biden’s tenure. “Now we are a nation in decline. We’re a failing nation. For millions of Americans the past two years under Joe Biden have been a time of pain, hardship, anxiety and despair,” Trump said. “As we speak, inflation is the highest in over 50 years. Gas prices have reached the highest levels in history,” he added.

He pointed to the southern border and the rise in crime saying, “The United States has been embarrassed, humiliated and weakened for all to see.”

On foreign policy he said that the invasion of Ukraine would never have happened if he’d been president. He also cited the missile attack that hit Poland today. “We are here tonight to declare that it does not have to be this way,” he said.

Trump cited the Decision Desk call giving the GOP control of the House and noted that Kevin Kiley was a “Trump-endorsed candidate.” Trump said he agreed that the GOP should have done better in the midterms but blamed the outcome on people not yet perceiving the full brunt of current policies. “They don’t quite feel it yet but they will very soon,” he said.

Trump added that despite the disappointment in the Senate, “we must all work very hard for a gentleman and a great person named Herschel Walker.”

“In order to make America great and glorious again I am tonight announcing my candidacy for President of the United States,” Trump said. A bit later Trump promised to “fight like no one has ever fought before.”
