Democrats have been doing their best to downplay concern over crime in advance of tomorrow’s election. But as hard as they try, all you have to do is type “Chicago” into Google any Monday morning and you’ll see a litany of shootings and murders that should concern anyone about what is happening in America’s major cities. This weekend the tally of shootings was 32 and five of the victims died. As is often the case in Chicago, many of the victims are teenagers.

Three people were shot in the city’s Gresham neighborhood Sunday. Police said two of the victims are teenagers. Police said a group was standing outside 76th and Wolcott when a vehicle drove by and someone inside started shooting. A 15-year-old boy is in good condition and a 17-year-old boy is in critical condition. Police said a third person, was also taken to the hospital, in critical condition.

Just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was seriously hurt in a shooting in West Garfield Park. It happened in the 200-block of North Karlov. At last check, the teen is in the hospital recovering. Police are still working to figure out what led to the shooting…

A 15-year-old boy was found shot to death early Sunday in Little Village.

Officers responding to shots fired report about 1:40 a.m. in the 3000-block of West 23rd Street found Salvador Huerta with a gunshot wound to the head, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

But it’s legitimately good news when Chicago makes it through a weekend without any young children being shot. Three kids were shot last Monday, Halloween.

A group of people were attending a vigil when two unidentified people traveling in a dark SUV began “randomly shooting into the crowd,” Mr. Brown said, adding that a preliminary investigation showed there were at least two shooters…

One man, 48, who was shot in the head, was in critical condition on Tuesday, the police said in a news release. A second man, 37, who was shot in the torso, was also in critical condition.

The 3-year-old boy, who was shot in both legs, was in serious condition, and two other children, 11 and 13, were also in serious condition, the police said,

While young children were luckier this weekend, an off-duty police officer was not. She was apparently targeted for unknown reasons.

“Officer Robinson,” 51, was driving to work in the 2300-block of East 103rd Street about 5:30 p.m. when someone in a white Chevy sedan kept trying to stop her, while keeping her vehicle from passing him, police said.

That’s when a weapon was pointed at the driver’s side of the officer’s vehicle, and a number of rounds were fired, police said.

The other car then crashed into another vehicle. A passenger got out and continued shooting at the officer.

Officer Robinson was hit in the neck but luckily the wound was superficial. A good Samaritan attempted to help the officer and wound up being shot in the legs. He was taken to the hospital and surivived. Someone who has lived in the neighborhood for more than 50 years told ABC 7 “It’s really sad to hear what’s going on. Every day you hear just so much crime.”

If the constant stream of bullets isn’t enough to shock you anymore, how about this. One neighborhood in Chicago has discovered human body parts three times in the past week.

On Sunday, officers were doing a follow up on the other two incidents when they discovered two human arms inside of a dumpster about a mile from a police station.

“We have our violence but I mean that’s crazy; body parts,” said Austin resident Vermont Porter. He and other Austin residents are shocked to learn of three grisly discoveries of human remains in their neighborhood.

All of the body parts apparently belong to the same person. Police have sent the body for DNA testing but they have no idea what kind of lunatic has been cutting up a dead body and leaving in piecemeal in dumpsters. Here’s the report from CBS Chicago.
