West Point Communist leaves the Army with 'Other Than Honorable' discharge

Remember this guy? He graduated from West Point and then posted a bunch of material on Twitter identifying himself as a Communist. According to one of Rapone’s comrades, he is being given an Other Than Honorable discharge from the Army this month:

Rapone made news last September after he wore a Che Guevara t-shirt under his uniform and wrote “Communism will win” on the underside of his cap. That behavior was borderline but was just the tip of the iceberg. In other social media posts, he had referred to Secretary of Defense Mattis as “the most vile, evil f**k in the current administration.” He also attacked VP Pence online in ways that appeared to violate UCMJ rules against showing contempt for civilian leadership.

The Army opened an investigation and Sen. Marco Rubio sent a letter to the Army Secretary asking that Rapone lose his commission and be forced to repay the cost of his education. After that, we stopped hearing about Rapone for several months.

According to that same tweet above, Rapone will be speaking at the Socialism 2018 conference in Chicago next month. The conference site includes a speaker’s bio for Rapone which also mentions his discharge:

Spenser Rapone is a former Army Ranger and Infantry Officer recently separated from the military for speaking out against its imperialist violence. He enlisted as an infantryman out of high school in 2010, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. After returning from his combat tour, he applied and was accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 2012, graduating and receiving his commission in May 2016. Deciding he could no longer stomach the immorality of US imperialism, he spoke out against the reprehensible actions of the military in September 2017. He ultimately resigned his commission, and was separated from the Army in June 2018 with an Other Than Honorable discharge.

A description of the panel Rapone will be joining reads, “Dissident veterans and former Army Rangers Rory Fanning and Spenser Rapone discuss their paths to resistance, and what socialism means to them.” So if you want to find out what socialism means to Spenser Rapone, you can attend the conference next month. Tickets are $85.
