Immigrant family caught hopping border fence near border wall prototypes Trump will inspect today

President Trump is flying to San Diego today to look over the 8 border wall prototypes which have been constructed about 100 yards from the existing border fence. In advance of his arrival, protest groups are holding events on both sides of the border. While filming from the Mexican side of the border, NBC News witnessed a family of four, including two toddlers, climbing over the existing fence directly across from the new wall prototypes on the American side. According to NBC, the family was detained on the U.S. side.

You can see the same pile of tires and the same graffiti on the fence in this clip. I don’t imagine that the new border wall is going to stop every determined person from coming across the border illegally, but the existing barrier can’t even stop toddlers. And this apparently happened on the day when President Trump is flying to San Diego meaning there was extraordinary security in place. From the Associated Press:

“We’re going to the wall. We’re going out to the wall,” Trump told reporters as he departed the White House. “We’re going to be looking at the prototypes, which is very important for our country.”…

Protests are also planned across the border in Tijuana, Mexico, as Trump examines the 30-foot-tall (9-meter-tall) prototypes designed to fulfill his signature campaign promise. Trump has insisted Mexico pay for the wall. Mexico has adamantly refused to consider the idea.

Organizers of opposing rallies were urging people to remain peaceful.

The scene was quiet on both sides of the border Tuesday morning as Trump flew to San Diego. On the Mexican side, federal and state police stood by. Tractor-trailer trucks on the U.S. side blocked the view from Mexico of all but the tops of the wall prototypes.

Immigrant activists, church leaders and elected officials held a news conference at the city’s historic Chicano Park to call for demonstrations to show border communities do not support a wall. Standing in front of murals of Mexican revolutionaries and other Latin American icons, they chanted, “We reject your hate! We don’t need your racist wall!”

Progressive activists in the U.S. held several protest events yesterday, including a march with about 250 people. In this clip, Rep. Juan Vargas makes clear President Trump is not welcome in San Diego. That seems to sum up how things stand for some on the left today. Illegal immigrants are welcome but the President of the United States is not.
