Hillary campaign brings back the 'fear of nuclear war' with new Daisy ad

The Clinton campaign released an updated version of the famous “Daisy” ad this week suggesting that nuclear disaster is in America’s future if Trump is elected. CNN reports:

A new ad out Monday — which features Monique Luiz, the same actress who at age three played “Daisy” in the ad for Lyndon B. Johnson’s campaign — is part of the campaign’s closing argument against the Republican Party’s presidential nominee. The campaign hopes to cast Trump as too reckless and unhinged to be trusted with the country’s nuclear arsenal.

“This was me in 1964,” Luiz says as video from the iconic ad, which features a young girl with flowers while a countdown to a nuclear warhead launch echoes in the background, plays. “The fear of nuclear war that we had as children, I never thought our children would ever have to deal with that again. And to see that coming forward in this election is really scary.”

Here’s the new ad (which Clinton tweeted out Monday):

The original Daisy ad, and this updated version, are what Democrats usually refer to as fear-mongering when they aren’t the ones doing the mongering. Here’s another variation on the same theme which Hillary’s Twitter feed sent out on Halloween.

Are you scared to death? Because that’s what team Hillary is promoting here.

Also this week, Clinton’s surrogates are claiming the FBI Director is working with Republicans to “hijack” the election for Trump. This is pretty close to claiming the election is being rigged but the media doesn’t seem nearly as concerned about it when Hillary’s supporters are playing that card.

This is not the first time the Clinton camp has engaged in this kind of blatant fear-mongering. Back in August she tweeted out another ad connecting Trump to the KKK. It was a message directed especially at African-Americans, but the theme was the same as the Daisy ad: Be afraid!

Clinton has run a campaign saturated with fear-mongering. And yet, you can bet that if she wins the White House next week she and her allies will claim it was because she took the high road, i.e. he went low and she went high. That’s not the full picture of what has been happening this election cycle and it’s certainly not what is happening this week.
