How has the left survived without Jon Stewart to eviscerate their opponents?! Luckily Stewart appeared on a a CNN podcast with David Axelrod and uncorked months of pent up material about Donald Trump. No doubt this clip will be praised on the left by those who miss him but it’s really the same partisan clapper material he’s make his career doing only with much less energy. From CNN:
“He is a man-baby,” Stewart told David Axelrod during a live taping of “The Axe Files,” a podcast produced by CNN and the University of Chicago Institute of Politics. “He has the physical countenance of a man and a baby’s temperament and hands.”
Stewart also took a shot at explaining Trump’s rise saying it was the result of Democrats not convincing enough people that more government is awesome:
“The door is open to an a–hole like Donald Trump because the Democrats haven’t done enough to show people that government, that can be effective for people, can be efficient for people,” he said. “And if you can’t do that, then you’ve lost the right to make that change and someone’s going to come in and demagogue you.”
Stewart also took aim at the political class, asking, “Why are we so good at campaigns and so bad at governance?”
Stewart had this this to say about conservatives in general:
“He makes sense if you view it through the prism of talk radio. I like to drive so I listen to talk radio and it is 24-7 of your country is being taken away from you. As far as I can tell, the conservative side or on the right side they feel an ownership over America. They are the stewards of America…Republicans, conservatives love America. They just hate like 50% of the people living in it.”
One could spend hours reviewing the distaste of Jon Stewart-loving progressives for the evangelical, church-going, gun-owning, patriotic, free speech advocating, talk radio listening people who reside in fly-over country. In fact, Stewart made a living catering these people. If he was a remotely honest observer he would point out the partisan animosity he helps generate is, at a minimum, very mutual. But of course that kind of balance has never been his stock in trade.
