Hillary vows to stick to the issues...also, order your official 'Woman Card'

Hillary Clinton has been going on the attack against Donald Trump after he suggested earlier in the week that all she had going for her was the “woman card.” Friday morning Clinton posted a GIF insinuating Trump is a bigot and a bully:

About 40 minutes later Trump tweeted this:

The word “enablers” is an apparent reference to Bill Clinton’s well-documented history of philandering. Clinton herself seemed to step very close to referencing her husband in an interview Friday with CNN’s Jake Tapper after Tapper asked her about Trump’s attacks:

“Well, you know, remember…I have a lot of experience dealing with men who sometimes get off the reservation in the way they behave and how they speak. I’m not going to deal with their temper tantrums or their bullying or their efforts to try to provoke me. He can say whatever he wants to say about me. I could really care less. I’m going to stand up for what I think the American people need and want in the next president. That’s why I’ve laid out very specific plans. There’s nothing secret about what I want to do with the economy, with education, with health care, with foreign policy. I’ve laid it all out there.”

Clinton concluded, “we’re going to talk about what we want to do for the country and he can continue on his insult fest but that’s the choice he’s making.”

First of all, who is she asking us to “remember” when she brings up “men who sometimes get off the reservation?” The first answer that comes to mind is her husband. She actually seems to be trying to turn her years dealing with Bill’s infidelities into a qualification for taking on Trump. Maybe that’s not what she had in mind but it’s an awkward phrasing to say the least.

Second, the idea that Hillary is taking the high road and sticking to the issues sounds good until you remember the GIF above calling Trump a bully and a bigot. Is that what sticking to issues looks like? She’s also not ignoring Trump’s “insult fest” as she suggests. On the contrary, she is offering supporters a chance to get their very own “woman card” (for a donation of course).

Hillary is using insults and identity politics to attack her rival beneath the thinnest veneer of policy.
