With all of the attention currently being paid to Venezuelan prison gangs running loose in the United States, Central American drug smugglers. human traffickers, and Chinese fentanyl importers, it can be easy to lose sight of those other terrorist groups. But they're still out there trying to keep their businesses in operation. We're talking about our old friends in ISIS, of course. The group was largely broken up when Donald Trump was in office, but there are still some remnants of the old gang out there looking to recruit new members. They seemed to find a prospective candidate this week in the person of Michael Teekaye of Maryland who decided to run off and join the ISIS circus. Unfortunately, he wasn't terribly clever about his plan and he failed to make it further than the airport. (CBS News Baltimore)
A Howard County man who allegedly was leaving the country to join the ISIS terror organization was arrested at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport this week, according to the FBI.
Michael Teekaye Jr., 21, was arrested on Monday after he went through security.
The FBI alleges a terrorist organization paid for his flight.
Teekaye has a history of mental health issues.
First of all, we should offer a tip of the hat to the FBI for staying on top of this situation and getting this clown off the streets without further incident or injury. We've got enough on our plates to deal with without this idiot running around looking to cause more problems.
With that said, this seems like a definite indicator of just how far ISIS has fallen from its "glory days" when they were carving out a caliphate for themselves in the desert and causing mayhem and death wherever they went. They used to find ways to smuggle prospective terrorists into the country. Why were they trying to smuggle this guy out? And the candidate they located already had "a history of mental health issues."
Teekaye was seen target shooting at a local firing range this summer and told an undercover agent that he "was training to be part of a terror organization and wanted to join ISIS in Somalia." Subtlety was clearly not his strong suit.If this is the best ISIS can manage at this point, we probably don't have as much to worry about on that front, But we still need to get all of those illegal migrants under control.
