Ever since the first debate debacle and the subsequent calls for Joe Biden to resign, First Son Hunter Biden has reportedly been among the most staunch supporters of keeping Joe in the race, along with his mother Jill. Hunter's motivations for wanting to keep his father in the White House for as long as humanly possible were clear, despite Joe's painfully obvious cognitive issues and plunging poll numbers. But shortly after Scranton Joe made his announcement yesterday, Hunter was among the first to publicly release a statement supporting the decision and thanking his father for his decades of "service" to the country. So why the sudden change of heart? This morning we'll pour over the tea leaves and figure out why this probably makes sense. (NY Post)
Controversial First Son Hunter Biden released a statement Sunday night after his father, Joe Biden, ended his reelection campaign.
Hunter praised his father for his candor and dedication to the American people.
“For my entire life, I’ve looked at my dad in awe. How could he suffer so much heartache and yet give so much of whatever remained of his heart to others? Not only in the policies he passed, but in the individual lives he’s touched," Hunter said.
Hunter, who was recently convicted of three felonies, said that his father has devoted most of his life to serving the less fortunate and making lives better for every American.
A more charitable person than myself might simply assume that this is just the response of a devoted son offering his support to a parent dealing with a difficult situation. But there clearly has to be more than that going on here. Hunter Biden's track record is far too long and well-documented for that. So what's really happening behind the scenes?
The first and most likely scenario is that Joe Biden made this decision on his own or with the help of some of his handlers who were reading the polls and losing confidence. Hunter couldn't control the decision despite his best efforts, so he decided to go on record as part of "Team Bidenexit." Agreeing with Dad, no matter the end result, is the best route toward remaining in his good graces.
There is obviously still more to the story than that, however. As the old saying goes, when life gives you lemons, you find a way to make lemonade. Before Joe's decision was finalized, we can safely assume that a deal was cut. All sorts of deals were cut or it wouldn't have happened. Hunter has two primary motivating factors when it comes to keeping his father in office. First, as long as Joe Biden is the President, Hunter still maintains the possibility of profiting from Dad's influence as he has done for decades. Second, and perhaps more importantly, if worse comes to absolute worst, Joe can either issue him pardons or, at a minimum, commute his sentences in both his gun crimes and tax evasion trials.
Yes, Joe Biden previously said on multiple occasions that he wouldn't be pardoning Hunter. But the man lies like a rug, so what would one more huge lie added to the pile mean at this point? Only a few days ago, Hunter asked yet again to have his gun crimes conviction tossed out. If that request is rejected or it takes too long, you can rest assured that Dad will take executive action to ensure that he never spends a night behind bars. As far as the tax evasion charges in California go, I will go out on a limb here and make a prediction. If that case drags out for too long, Hunter's defense will drop their objections and Hunter will enter a guilty plea. Then Joe will swoop in to ensure that any sentence he might be given will never take effect.
Hunter Biden owes his entire life and career to the power and influence of his father. If Joe Biden had really turned out to be nothing more than a truck driver from Scranton (not that it wouldn't be honorable work), Hunter likely never would have risen beyond the point of being a crack addict living in an abandoned car somewhere. Nobody would have been making massive cash deals with overseas companies on his behalf. Wealthy benefactors wouldn't be buying his paint-by-numbers artwork for millions of dollars. But thanks to Dad, he's managed to spend his years living the lifestyle of the rich and famous. That all comes to an end in January because there will be no more influence left to peddle. He'd better hope that he saved some of that Burisma money for a rainy day because the storm clouds are gathering rapidly.
Hunter and his dad may be on the way out, but there is still a long haul to the election and the fight must continue.
