New York City has been learning about what it really means to be a sanctuary city this year and Mayor Eric Adams doesn’t care for it. With hundreds of illegal migrants arriving every day, he has already stated that they have run out of places to put them. But the city put a “sanctuary” law in place long before he arrived in office, so he doesn’t have many options. Yesterday, Adams sought to change that situation. Instead of finding more housing, he went to court to ask a judge to “revisit” the law and “halt” the policy. Presumably, if he gets his wish, he will be able to start turning away migrants as they arrive. Where he would send them instead remains a mystery. (Townhall)

In New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has been complaining about the arrival of 500 illegal immigrants per day and is taking drastic measures to make room where he says there is none.

Now, Mayor Adams is lamenting laws that made his jurisdiction a sanctuary city and asking a court to halt the policy.

You can read New York City’s sanctuary city law here. It’s really not so much a “law” as it is a resolution. It was passed during the Trump presidency and his name is littered throughout all of the various “resolved” statements, talking about how horrible his policies were. It includes vows not to allow municipal law enforcement agencies to work with ICE or any other immigration enforcement activities and promises to “support” the creation of laws to offer sanctuary to migrants. But that lack of legislative authority might give the judge some wiggle room in suspending or amending it.

Adams appears to be out of other options at this point short of putting them all on buses and trying to send them elsewhere. But his initial efforts along those lines didn’t work out well either. The Mayor is catching a lot of heat for having homeless veterans kicked out of a hotel in a suburban county to make room for illegal aliens. That really says something about the city’s priorities.

This is all just so typical of Democratic leaders in blue cities. They were very enthusiastic and proud to decry the immigration policies of the Bad Orange Man and declare themselves as sanctuaries for illegal migrants. But that ended quickly when migrants actually began showing up to take them up on their offer. It was all virtue signaling, displaying a cynical trend of talking the talk but not being willing or able to walk the walk. They were fine with southern border cities in red states being hit with a deluge of migrants, but when the problem showed up near Times Square, they changed their tune almost immediately.
