DeSantis investigating drag show with children present

(Dolls)

Unfortunately, this is something that seems to be happening so often these days that it barely merits a headline, but yet another “drag queen” event took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on the day after Christmas. And in keeping with the spirit of the season, it was billed as “A Drag Queen Christmas.” This odd event wouldn’t have been an issue (to each their own if you’re of legal age) except for the fact that there were reportedly children present and they were exposed to simulated sexual acts. Javier Manjarres at The Floridian was the first to report on this incident and he also discovered that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has been made aware of the case and has launched an investigation into what happened and if any children were endangered as a result.

Through the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR), Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is formally investigating the “A Drag Queen Christmas” event that took place in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Monday, December, 26th.

The Floridian first reported that the traveling drag queen show that took place at the Broward Center for Performing Arts Center appears to have exposed minor children to simulated sexual acts.

In response to the event,  The Floridian has obtained Gov. DeSantis’s official Executive address on the issue, where the Governor’s office state’s that the DPBR is looking at all “video footage and photographs from the event,” and will take action and share any and all evidence with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).

As the FDLE pointed out in their announcement, exposing children to sexually explicit activity is a crime in Florida. If the video and photographic evidence are sufficient, the operators at the BCPAC could face criminal charges. Also, since the Center includes a bistro that serves adult beverages, their liquor license could be removed.

According to one witness who blew the whistle on the drag show, the entertainment did indeed include sexually explicit content. One skit was titled “Screwdolph the Red-Nippled Reindeer.” After the witness protested the fact that the performance was inappropriate with children in the audience, one of whom reportedly appeared to be as young as ten years old, he was ejected from the premises.

A video of the offensive display was posted to Twitter by the witness.

Shockingly, there were Broward County Sheriff’s deputies present and rather than shutting down the show or at least getting the children out of there, they told the witness to leave and threatened to arrest him if he didn’t comply. It sounds to me as if someone needs to be investigating the Sheriff’s Department also.

It’s no surprise that Ron DeSantis is moving to take action on this. He’s already gone on record as being opposed to the sexualization of children at events like this. (As well he should.) What adults want to do in their free time or how they choose to dress is up to them. But when they drag children into the mix, as has been happening all too frequently, that’s another matter entirely.
