Someone in NYC is sending Migrants to Florida promising work

Is someone trying to organize a “reverse DeSantis” move against Ron DeSantis himself? In New York City, that certainly appears to be the case. A woman calling herself “Camila” who supposedly works for an unnamed “organization” has been contacting illegal migrants in the city and arranging vans to take them to Florida. The migrants were told that they were being recruited to do cleanup work in the Sunshine State after hurricane Ian and would be paid $15 per hour along with other benefits. That sounds like a generous offer, but the problem is that nobody seems to know who this Camila person is and the migrants were given no information as to who they should contact in Florida, where they would be staying, or much of anything else, really. Scores of Venezuelan migrants in New York City are hopping on vans to head down to Florida for Hurricane Ian clean-up, they told The Post.

The migrants had scant information about who they would be working for, but they still piled into vans in Queens that they said were headed to the Sunshine State over the weekend.

“They want us for hurricane cleanup, we’d get paid $15 an hour, overtime and $15 for food daily, I think,” said Javier Moreno, 37, noting that a woman named Camila “from an organization” approached him with a flier.

If this actually is a valid job opportunity then it might turn out to be a good deal for the migrants, but the validity of this is in question. The Post asked all of the usual suspects when trying to determine what was going on and the Mayor’s office said that New York City was not involved in the operation. Similarly, a representative for the Florida Governor’s office was not involved. FEMA similarly said that they knew nothing about the plan.

The Post was given the name of a supposed “water and debris company” but nobody answered the phone there despite repeated calls. And while we’re on the subject, employers aren’t supposed to hire illegal immigrants, are they? It all sounds very shady.

So what should the liberal response be to this scheme if it turns out to be a hoax? Over at The Daily Beast, they thought it was hilarious, saying that the project “broke the irony meter.” So when Ron DeSantis or Greg Abbott ship illegal migrants to sanctuary cities that claim to welcome them, it’s evil and racist. But if someone sends them to Florida on a wild goose chase, it’s hilarious? That’s typically consistent with progressive values, I suppose.

Let’s keep in mind that there have been far more migrants being shipped around the country than just the ones in this report or those being sent from Florida and Texas to New York, Washington, and Chicago to prove a point. Joe Biden’s people have been sending planeloads of migrants to be dumped off in other parts of New York State for more than a year, though you rarely see it mentioned in any mainstream media outlets. They are sent in the dead of night in planes with the owner’s identification blacked out.

That sounds totally legitimate and on the up and up, right? They used to ship them to Westchester County Airport in upstate New York, but now that reporters have noticed, they’ve changed the destination to Orange County Airport in Montgomery. Those migrants are also dumped off with no apparent concern for what resources may be available for them and many wind up in shelters if they are lucky enough to find space. But somehow that’s not racist or a humanitarian disaster in the eyes of the media. The hypocrisy of these people is sickening.
