If you were unaware that there was an international health association specifically tasked with handling transgender health issues, don’t feel alone. I’d never heard of it either until this week. But it apparently exists and it’s called the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). They have been issuing guidelines to hospitals and medical practices, including those in the United States, specific to the treatment of people dealing with gender dysphoria and those seeking “transitional treatment.” And now they are preparing to release some changes to their previous policies. They are expected to lower the minimum recommended age for genital mutilation surgery from 18 to 17 and, in the case of young girls who have been convinced that they are boys, they will reportedly lower the age for mastectomies to 15. Sometimes there just are no words. (Fox News)
Children’s hospitals nationwide will soon be faced with the decision whether to continue following the guidance of a leading transgender health association that is expected to lower its recommended ages for chest and genital surgeries to minors under 18.
The World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) has yet to release its much-anticipated Standards of Care Version 8, which will lower its age recommendations for breast removal to 15 years old, and genital surgery, including womb and testicle removal, to 17 years old – a year earlier than its previous guidance, the Associated Press reported in June, citing an unreleased draft of the new guidance.
WPATH’s earlier guidance, Standards of Care Version 7, released in 2011, specified that genital surgery should not be carried out until patients reach the “legal age of majority in a given country,” and until “patients have lived continuously for at least 12 months in the gender role that is congruent with their gender identity.” It also stated that chest surgeries for females transitioning to male could be performed on individuals younger than 18.
Fox talked to spokespeople from both Boston Children’s Hospital and Seattle Children’s Hospital, both of which have been in the news recently after their policies for these types of “care” were made public. Reading this article felt like something out of a dystopian movie set in the future after society had abandoned any pretense of sanity. At least for me, there was a combination of horror and sadness seeing the matter-of-fact way these hospital administrators casually talked about irreversible surgical procedures being performed on children who are not old enough to legally provide informed consent to get a tattoo.
The American Medical Association has signed off on a lot of these items as referenced in the linked report. And they are not the only formerly esteemed medical authority to do so. But this is all being done without any referenceable scientific breakthroughs or studies documenting the practices being discussed or what the long-term effects of these medicines and procedures may be. But we do know that the surgeries in question are irreversible and some of the medicines, particularly puberty blockers, have left some patients infertile at a very early age after they regretted what they had agreed to and later “detransitioned.”
Please keep in mind (yet again) that I’m only talking about children here. If you are over the age of 18 and want to sign yourself up for any legal surgery or procedure, feel free, provided you are willing to accept the consequences of your own decisions for the rest of your life. But this sort of experimentation on children is simply unforgivable. Doctors agreeing to perform these procedures on children should not just have their licenses suspended. They should be arrested. And as controversial as some may find it to say, I agree with officials in Texas who said that parents who give consent for their children to go through this should be investigated for child abuse.
How did we get to this point? How did medical professional associations morph in a fashion where these things could become officially approved for children? You don’t need to be a doctor to look at this trend and realize that it’s going to end very badly in far too many cases. And that’s true at this moment in history perhaps more than ever. We now have a generation of children who were tossed out of their schools for an extended period, causing damage to both their educational and social development. We forced them to wear cloth masks over their faces so they could not see the emotional reactions of their family members and peers. And now we’re taking any of them who become “socialized” to think that gender reversal is somehow normal and letting them agree to alter their bodies unnaturally with foreign hormones and puberty blockers or forever mutilate their otherwise normal, healthy bodies through surgery.
How does this possibly end well? I’m not a doctor, but I can answer that one for you. It doesn’t. And history will not look back on the generation that allowed this to happen kindly.
