Turnabout: Russia imposes sanctions on Joe Biden, others

Perhaps they should try to get Oprah Winfrey to run this entire invasion response. ‘YOU get a sanction! And YOU get a sanction. And YOU…

Every day we seem to learn about new sanctions against Vladimir Putin, his various Oligarch buddies, and Russian businesses from across the economic spectrum. With Putin unable to achieve the major military breakthrough he desires in Ukraine, it seems that he’s going to switch tactics and try out some of these direct, personal sanctions himself. And what better place to start than the world leader who unleashed all of this activity against him? That’s right. Russia is personally imposing sanctions on Joe Biden. But they’re not stopping there. There are also new sanctions against his son Hunter Biden, though no word as to whether they will be sanctioning his laptop. Oh, and for some strange reason, they decided to sanction Hillary Clinton too. There are even more we’ll get to in a moment. Missing from the list? Donald J. Trump. (NBC News)

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday that President Joe Biden and top administration officials have been added to the Russian sanctions list.

The move is a response to harsh U.S. economic sanctions against Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government as well as Russian oligarchs and banks…

Hillary Clinton and Biden’s son Hunter were also included, although neither of them currently serves in the U.S. government.

First, let’s get to the other administration officials being hit with sanctions. They include Antony Blinken, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, and NSA Jake Sullivan. And just to make sure they didn’t miss anyone you might know from watching cable news, they even tossed in Jen Psaki. Yes, that’s right. They put sanctions on Joe Biden’s official White House publicist.

The Russians are calling this a “stop list.” It’s also referred to as a “black list” in the comments delivered by the Foreign Ministry. There are some other, lower-level officials on the list at that link. Presumably, this means that none of the people on the list will be able to do any business with anyone in Russia or make any money off such interactions. That should come as something of a relief to both Joe and Hunter Biden because I believe most of Hunter’s business was with Ukraine anyway. (Okay, also China. But they can sort that out later.)

This probably sounds a bit comical at first glance. I don’t imagine that any of the people on that list were doing any serious business with Russian entities to begin with or it might have negatively impacted their career prospects. But this is still yet another example of the era of “economic warfare” that’s we’re living in now. If enough other countries got together and started doing this to prominent allied officials, the total damage would start building up sooner or later.

So what do we do about it? Nothing, really. The barn door is open and the horses are already gone. At some point, we may reach the stage where nobody will need an army anymore. We’ll all just bankrupt each other until the point where nobody will be able to afford any tanks. I wonder if that wasn’t the plan all along…
