Lisa Bloom: I believe you, Tara Reade, even though I'm still supporting your attacker

For a while there, it was looking as if Tara Reade wasn’t going to have any supporters on the liberal side of the aisle. People who previously proclaimed that we had to “believe all women” in the #MeToo era were shuffling away from her as if she’d suddenly started coughing on a crowded train while not wearing a mask. But now she has another defender taking her side… sort of. Celebrity attorney Lisa Bloom took to Twitter this weekend to proclaim her support for Ms. Reade. It was a touching moment in the normally cruel landscape of social media.

So now that she’s made up her mind and decided to side with Reade, surely she will be turning her back on Reade’s awful assailant, right? Not even close. There are bigger issues at stake here, you see. And it’s better to have a guy you think sexually assaults women in the Oval Office than the Bad Orange Man who you also accuse of the same thing. Feminist attorney Lisa Bloom said Friday that though she believes 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden sexually assaulted Tara Reade, she will still be supporting him.

Bloom, a sexual harassment attorney who represented accusers of President Donald Trump and former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, tweeted her support for Reade Friday but emphasized that she will still be voting for Biden.

“I believe you, Tara Reade,” the attorney said. “You have people who remember you told them about this decades ago. We know he is ‘handsy’ You’re not asking for $. You’ve obviously struggled mightily with this.”

She was doing so well right up until the end, wasn’t she? And then she dropped the bombshell on Reade. “I still have to fight Trump, so I will still support Joe.
But I believe you. And I’m sorry
.”

Well, at least she’s sorry. That will probably make Ms. Reade feel better. But surely there are other prominent, influential women on the left who are willing to stand by their principles and take Reade’s side, right? Oh, here’s one now. New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has always been a fierce defender of women’s rights and it sounds like she’s all over this situation.

Women are watching as the most powerful people in this country disbelieve, distrust and minimize their experiences.

We need to answer this: Are we a country that values women? Do we believe women when they tell us about sexual trauma? Do the stories of survivors matter to us?

That’s more like it. Forceful and unambiguous. Oh, wait a minute. I just noticed the date on that tweet. It’s from last October and she was talking about Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh. She actually endorsed Biden before Reade’s latest allegations came to light on March 25th. But now that all of this new information has been unearthed, I assume she’ll probably be rethinking that, right? Not so much. She doubled down on her support of Biden just last week.

“Vice President Biden has vehemently denied these allegations, and I support Vice President Biden,” Gillibrand said during a recent video conferencing call, which is published on YouTube. Her office did not reply to Newsweek’s request for comment on this story by the time of publication.

So much for that. Man… if only Brett Kavanaugh had thought to vehemently deny the allegations against him. He could have had Gillibrand on his side in the final vote. (/snark)

Much like Lisa Bloom, I’m sorry, Tara Reade. It looks like you’re on your own.
