Somebody needs to alert Hillary Clinton’s new friends at Black Lives Matter. Among the many complaints of the Social Justice Warriors, racial profiling (or profiling of any sort, really) is a Big Something Deal as Joe Biden would say. It’s unfair and discriminates against oppressed minorities of all types. Interestingly enough, the Weekly Standard dug up an interview that Clinton did back after 9/11 when the realities of the world at least briefly intruded on her world view and she admitted that safety required certain limits on our open society.
This isn’t just something that applies to policing. It’s also quite relevant as we decide whether or not to allow tens of thousands of Syrian “refugees” into the country in the wake of the Paris attacks.
Let’s go to the video.
A few of the highlights:
“I think we have to do whatever it takes, Sam. And I believe that, you know, Tuesday changed everything. Tuesday was a day that America has never, ever had to experience. And I hope to heaven that we never have to again. But we are in a war situation, and we’re going to have to do things people do in times of war. I just heard your interview with the mayor, and I think he’s right to look at examples in history like the Battle of Britain. Many of us have been studying what others did to carry on. And we know that we have to make tradeoffs in convenience, in our freedom of movement, without undercutting or losing our way of life and our values, which I really want to make America special and great. And we can’t ever let anyone undermine that.”
Clinton’s response to the 9/11 terror attacks is worth considering now that candidates are being asked to respond to the Friday terror attacks in Paris, France.
At the time she said these things, Clinton was a senator representing Ground Zero of the attacks. We were getting a pretty good idea of who we needed to watch and recognizing that profiling was a useful tool in looking for those who would do us more harm. There’s really no difference between Homeland Security looking for potential jihadists or the cops looking for those likely to be smuggling guns or drugs on the streets. The entire nation was on a state of high alert and it was politically acceptable to suggest such limits and precautions.
Now, of course, the SJW wants nothing to do with such ideas so Clinton has pretty much flip flopped entirely on the subject. (You’re shocked, I know.) But this week the tide seems to be turning. One major attack on a western nation’s capital with threats of similar mayhem coming to our own shores and the nation is looking for solid leadership and elected officials willing to keep us safe in the face of obvious, credible threats. How will presidential candidate Hillary play her cards this time? Don’t expect to hear the word “profiling” pass her lips, but if the pressure grows hot enough she just may begin taking a dim view on the same number of Syrians showing up in America.
It all depends on how the polls shift in the coming weeks. As always, that seems to be where Hillary derives all of her policy positions.
