Higher Education: School worksheet says GOP thinks poor are a waste of money

In case you were worried about the next generation and the future of the nation, save yourself some time. All is lost.

A Wisconsin mother claims her 16-year-old son’s classroom assignment last week described Republicans as opposed to helping the poor because “it’s a waste of money.”

The woman said her son, a junior at Nathan Hale High School in West Allis, Wisc., was asked, along with other students, to complete an assignment about different views on the political spectrum while in a U.S. government and politics class on Thursday.

The assignment listed a series of quotes and required students to identify which party affiliation best represented each statement.

The first quote read, “We should not help the poor, it’s a waste of money.”

The mother, who asked only to be identified as “Heather” to protect her son’s privacy, said he chose option “E” for “Fascist” because he “didn’t know what else could be the answer.”

When the assignment was returned, the answer was marked as incorrect and the teacher wrote in option “D” for “Conservative/Republican” instead, his mother told FoxNews.com.

So this is actually going on in a high school classroom. The one question making the headlines is dismaying enough, but if you look at the rest of the form you will find several other generalities which should be worrisome as well. The original below is from EAG News where the story was originally reported. Check out some of the quiz items.

Question 3 says, Don’t ever forget that you have the right to read anything you want. The following one states, The problem with this country is that we no longer have a common sense of morality, what’s right and wrong. The student chose “C” (moderate) for each of these and was marked as being wrong. Neither of these are sentiments which could be considered moderate? We are only left to imagine what the “correct” answers were. I’m going to take a shot in the dark here and say that the teacher felt that question 3 was for Democrats (because, you know… the evil Republicans don’t want you reading about any science) and number 4 should have been Republican or Fascist, because morality is a value judgement against unicorns.

I’m rather shocked that number 6 assigned communist as the correct answer and not “Liberal / Democrat.” For number 8 the teacher felt that “Fascist” was the wrong answer. (I think we should have the right to do what we want, but too many people seem to think that means they should do what they want – that’s wrong.) Honestly, I don’t even know what that means, but I assume she wanted him to answer Republican. If any of you want to take a shot at translating that one into politically correct speech, feel free.

Is this an isolated incident? Across the United States there are more than 26,000 public high schools and 10,000 private ones. What do you suppose the odds are that this is the only place this happened? This was the only teacher in a country of more than 400 million people to do this? Pull the other one… it’s got bells on it.
