Democrats in Texas may have fallen into a trap when they decided to proceed with a grand jury indictment of Governor Rick Perry this month. As a few observers on social media noted this week, the situation is looking more and more like one where Perry is playing Obi-Wan Kenobi, daring the Democrats to hit him with the lightsaber. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.

Generally when a politician shows up with a mug shot on the front page of the papers, you’re looking at the end of their political career. In the case of Rick Perry and one PAC supporting him, it was an excuse to put out a new T-shirt.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) seems to be enjoying the spotlight that has come with pushing back on his recent indictment.

The latest move: His new political action committee unveiled a T-shirt featuring Perry’s mug shot. The back of the shirt features the mug shot of District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg, whose character Perry has repeatedly tried to attack while making her the poster child of his pushback.

I have to admit, it’s a pretty nice design.

It didn’t hurt that Perry showed up for his close-up groomed, well dressed and ready for prime time. This presents a rather stark contrast to the shot of Rosemary Lehmberg, during her rather … unfortunate experience with the law for a similar photo op. But either way, Perry seems to be enjoying his moment at the center of this story and displays every confidence that this circus is going to wind up being tossed in court, leaving the Democrats looking foolish.
