Finally! The Julian Assange TV Show

It’s been a while since we last checked in with our old friends on the Wikileaks / Aiding the Enemy circut, Bradley Manning and Julian Assange. But that doesn’t mean that everyone hasn’t been keeping busy. As we let you know last month, proceedings in Manning’s trial are moving forward at the usual, deliberate pace of the military and it looks like we’ll be seeing a court martial at some point in the future. But what if his now assumed accomplice in crime, Julian Assange? Last we’d heard he was holed up in the U.K. fighting extradition on sex crimes charges in Sweden.

But Assange isn’t the type to sit around and mope. No, indeed… he is staying busy. On what, you might ask? Well, his new TV show!

LONDON – WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has announced he is creating his own TV talk show where he will interview “key political players, thinkers and revolutionaries from around the world,” The Australian reported Tuesday.

According to a media release on the WikiLeaks website the new program will focus on the future, with a theme of “the world tomorrow.”

“Through this series I will explore the possibilities for our future in conversations with those who are shaping it,” he said in the statement.

“This is an exciting opportunity to discuss the vision of my guests in a new style of show that examines their philosophies and struggles in a deeper and clearer way than has been done before.”

I was wondering who was going to fill the void now that Rob Schneider has passed on doing hard hitting political news and launched a new sit-com. One can only imagine the wonders awaiting us when the pretentious, oddly albino-ish Wikileaker sits down with thought leaders from around the world to chew over the weighty issues of the day.

But seriously… what the heck is going on across the pond? How, where and when is this guy managing to launch a television show? And what network (if any) in their right mind would carry it? Shouldn’t he be spending his time figuring out how to not wind up in the Crowbar Hotel on rape charges, or avoiding getting dragged on to a cruise ship for an extended vacation at Gitmo?

Then again, maybe there is a market for this. I was just flipping through the cable guide and there seems to be an audience for Kourtney & Kim Take New York, Why am I Still Single and The Ed Show, so I guess people will watch anything.
