President Trump appealed for unity and respect in a Christmas message released by the White House on Wednesday – exactly a week after he was impeached in the House by a nearly party line vote.

“While the challenges that face our country are great, the bonds that unite us as Americans are much stronger,” the president and first lady Melania Trump said in the seasonal greeting.

“Together, we must strive to foster a culture of deeper understanding and respect – traits that exemplify the teachings of Christ.”

The House approved two articles of impeachment – for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress – that Trump called a “hoax.”
