GOP Sen. Marsha Blackburn said Tuesday that she thinks the Senate has enough votes to confirm acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to the post permanently and that investigators have recovered additional evidence that could support a potential criminal charge against former Special Counsel Jack Smith.
The Tennessee senator made her comments on Just the News: No Noise, just hours after Blanche's nomination advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, following concerns from some ranking Republicans having been addressed.
“It is a big moment to get him off the committee,” said Blackburn of the President Trump nominee. “We will get him to the floor. He will be confirmed. We're looking forward to doing that. Hopefully, doing it before we break for the August work period.”
The committee recommended Blanche out of committee in a 12-10, party line vote in which GOP holdout Sens. John Cornyn, Texas, and Thom Tillis, North Carolina, voted "yes" after Blanche provided a written notice that the Justice Department has rescinded the so-called $1.8 billion Trump "Anti-Weaponization Fund."
