The discovery of a 'massive' rat has sparked fears that the issue could become a 'growing' problem in North Yorkshire.

A pest controller found a dead rat, said measure 22 inches from nose to tail. The rodent had made its nest within a home in Normanby.

Now there are fears that it could be a 'growing' problem, with reports of rat sightings in nearby back alleys, Yorkshire Live reports.

Eston ward councillors David Taylor and Stephen Martin took to Facebook to urge Redcar and Cleveland Council to tackle the issue decisively, suggesting collaboration with various agencies. They are advocating for a comprehensive "full vermin survey and treatment plan" in council-owned locales throughout the borough, as well as coordinated efforts with businesses, landlords, and social housing providers.
