Ding, Dong, the Cult is Dead!

The level of Schadenfreude I’ve felt watching Blue Wokester Cult members turn on each other is hard to describe. Watching the “Leo de Caprio uses a flamethrower on a Manson child” scene from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood on an endless loop approximates it, but the fact that the Grand Faceplant is really happening massively amps the satisfaction. Normally I’d say it’s bad to celebrate another’s feelings of helpless misery, but America for eight years has been in the grip of terrible moral panic led by these people, and it’s only by grace of God that they’re out of options and devouring one another. I thought my friend Glenn was kidding yesterday when he wrote about “this new discourse about how liberals finally need to build their own media — the way the Right did with podcasts, etc. — is pathetic.”

How delusional does a person have to be to think Democrats have a media access problem? But it’s true. Michael Tomasky in The New Republic explained that “billionaires on the right have invested far more heavily in media in the last two decades than their counterparts on the left,” which has grown right-wing media to the size of a “basketball” compared to the smaller “volleyball” of liberal media.

This essay is worth the subscription price alone. Of course, so are most of Taibbi's essays, which is why I keep subscribing.

For what it's worth, I don't think the cult is dead yet. They are going to eat other alive for a while, but eventually they'll try to re-form again.
