Axios to Lay Off 10% of Staff

As the media outlet adapts to a shifting industry landscape, Axios is enacting layoffs, impacting around 50 staffers, CEO Jim VandeHei announced in an internal memo on Tuesday.

In the Axios signature “Smart Brevity” writing model, VandeHei informed the workforce that the outlet would be eliminating 50 positions to “get ahead of tectonic shifts in the media, technology, and reader needs/habits.”

Let's just say that I'm in no position to gloat; the same industry conditions hitting Axios hits us all. That's why I am VERY grateful for our VIP/VIP Gold members.

One other point, though; they are telling everyone to wait for another e-mail to inform them whether or not they have a job after this Friday, August 9. That seems an unnecessarily cruel way to go about this.
