New: Disney Will Complete Its Legal Retreat in Florida

Now that Disney and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ appointees to a governing district have reached a deal on how Walt Disney World will be developed over the next two decades, the company plans to ask that its federal lawsuit be dismissed, ending the last piece of conflict between the two sides.

The decision comes as little surprise because the federal lawsuit’s future was contingent on whether a development agreement could be reached between Disney and the DeSantis appointees to the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District that governs Disney World, according to a settlement reached in March.

Gee, if Disney hadn't picked a fight with DeSantis over the Parental Rights in Education Act in the first place, they wouldn't have had to negotiate their development plan at all. This might have been the dumbest corporate political fight ever, and certainly turned out to be one of the more costly. Disney lost their sweetheart arrangement in the Reedy Creek Tax District (that probably shouldn't have existed in the first place) and lost full control over land use and resources.

And Florida gets $17 billion in new development anyway, as well as the PREA. Heh.
