Are Bloody Slasher/Torture Films Making a Comeback?

Horror is having a cultural moment. The genre’s low budgets often translate to big ROI, witness the “Terrifier” films and smashes like “M3GAN” and “Smile.”

Yecch. This is definitely not my genre. I don't mind well-made horror and psychological thrillers, but the Bucket o' Blood films don't do anything but repulse me. Cabin in the Woods was a rare exception -- its gore-drenched third act was something to behold -- mainly because it was a campy-esque criticism of the genre.

But if you pine for the old days of slasher movies, congrats!
