BREAKING: Slovakia Assassin Is 'Lone Wolf,' No Political Affiliations, Says Gov't

Slovak police have provided no information on the identity of the shooter. But unconfirmed media reports suggested he was a 71-year-old retiree who was known as an amateur poet, and may have previously worked as a security guard at a mall in the country’s southwest.

A lone-wolf nutcase? Entirely possible. Also pretty convenient, but that doesn't mean it's not the truth. It'll be interesting to hear the "political motive," but if he truly acted on his own, it's a lot less meaningful. Stay tuned.

By the way, expect the media to cast Fico as a far-right revanchist, but he's more of a left-populist revanchist. Either way, you eventually end up with an authoritarian if you go far enough in either direction, especially in Europe.
