... I agree with Thomas Aquinas that foreigners shouldn’t be allowed citizenship too soon or they will meddle with our affairs and hurt our people.”
Woke Christians: “Not like that!”
Ed: Yes, although I would just say "woke" and leave it at that. Woke is its own religion. My thoughts on the Trump v Barbara case can be found here.

Matt Taibbi: “It’s a good decision for women and girls,” said Kara Dansky, who wrote an amicus brief supporting the states for the U.S. chapter of the Women’s Declaration International.
Dansky was once senior counsel for the ACLU Center of Justice. In this case she was on the other side of the ACLU, whose attorneys (including co-director of LGBTQ and HIV rights, Chase Strangio) argued against the state bans. The ACLU has also split with former feminist allies by arguing for the housing of biological men in women’s prisons, including those with records of violent sex offenses. These efforts in trying to force society to reimagine biology are clearly failing, but the outraged reaction yesterday shows the fight isn’t over. NBC described the decision as a “major blow to LGBTQ rights,” and former VP contender Tim Walz claimed the “Supreme Court says schools can be cruel to my trans kids” ...
Cruel is an extraordinary word to describe the act of allowing states to object to a radical social program that was implemented virtually everywhere ahead of both scientific and (especially) political consensus. The numbers aren’t close. A New York Times/Ipsos poll last year found 79% of Americans, including 67% of Democrats, are opposed to “athletes who were male at birth” participating in women’s sports. The same poll found 71% of all Americans, including 54% of Democrats, believe no one under 18 should have access to puberty blockers. This was after exposure to years of movement messaging.
Ed: It's another great rant from Taibbi, and a well-timed one. Bear in mind that the Supreme Court only ruled that states CAN bar access to women and girls' competitions in schools under Title IX, not that they MUST. That kind of decision may come later depending on how current challenges under Title IX go. This will continue to be a flashpoint for a few years.

Never forget that even before this wave of DSA, communists were elected, 48 Democrat Senators voted to nuke the filibuster and promised to expand the Supreme Court. The difference between radical communist Democrats and mainstream Democrats is mostly tone. https://t.co/MC1aUsCEUW
— Fusilli Spock (@awstar11) July 1, 2026
Ed: I'd say the difference is mainly honesty. DSA activists are open about their communist agenda, or at least a lot more open than "mainstream" Democrats. How mainstream? Wellllll ....

Jim Geraghty at NRO: Now it’s a wonder if Harris has any interest in running as even a semi-centrist option in the 2028 primary.
Axios reports, “Kamala Harris privately called New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani last week and has been holding lengthy, closed-door meetings with other prominent progressives — including pro-Palestinian activists.”
If you’re a Mamdani-loving progressive, I’m not sure you want to hitch your wagon to the damaged goods of Harris — particularly if a longer-term ally like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is likely to be in the mix of candidates. But it must feel good to know that Harris sees you as important enough to court in the early stages of the 2028 process.
Ed: It feels even better to have the party's most recent presidential nomination-anointee come kiss your ring. Or your posterior. I wrote about it earlier today, but Jim makes a good point about the potential of disinterest from Mamdani, who would almost certainly prefer a coherent and competent contender.
===
NEW: When CNN asked about Mamdani endorsed Darializa Avila Chevalier being an open communist, Rep Pramila Jayapal (D-GAZA) said, “I believe we’ve gotta understand that big tent means big tent.”

The talking points have gone out https://t.co/3FEJRpcpOv pic.twitter.com/14KsrGWqGY
Ed: This is particularly pusillanimous, as Jayapal knew that Diane DeGette was facing off against a DSA challenger in Colorado. Jayapal had endorsed DeGette, who had been a key member of Jayapal's Congressional Progressive Caucus. Why was she going on M-SNOW and lending credibility to the DSA at the same time DeGette was fighting for her political life? Do these people even have a functioning brain cell to dedicate to strategy?

CBS News: The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Democratic Sen. Ruben Gallego of Arizona for possible campaign finance violations, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.
The case was prompted by a whistleblower complaint in Southern California, one of the sources added.
The investigation focuses on Gallego's usage of campaign funds since 2019 for family trips, according to a source familiar with the probe. Federal Election Commission records show that Gallego has billed his campaign accounts for trips to Puerto Rico, Nantucket, Miami and other places.
Federal records also show that in 2023, a political action committee set up by Gallego and former Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California spent over $37,000 on tickets and meals for the Super Bowl. According to records, the committee has since been terminated.
Ed: Gallego now claims that this probe is politically motivated. Er ... sure, pal. Campaign finance records are supposed to be public for good reasons, and this is certainly one of them.

As Democratic socialists continue scoring wins at the ballot box, most recently in Colorado, CBS News' executive director of elections and surveys Anthony Salvanto highlights that "the first thing you notice is this is happening in cities."

"Why is that? Well, first of all,… pic.twitter.com/cMhl9U8rol
"Why is that? Well, first of all, you've got the kind of coalition that these kinds of candidates are drawing, which is, you've got younger people, you do have more affluent districts, you've got more educated districts we're talking about here," he says.
Ed: We can make it simpler than that. The "more educated" districts are more drenched in ideological indoctrination than actual education, and American cities have notoriously bad school districts. That's why voters in these districts vote for people advocating for systems that have never produced anything other than poverty, despotism, and oppression – not to mention mass murders. They have been indoctrinated into Marxism. If they had been educated, they would laugh the socialists off the streets.

Hollywood Reporter: President Donald Trump earned millions of dollars last year from Hollywood companies, including an eight-figure sum associated with the Amazon MGM documentary film Melania; tens of millions of dollars in lawsuits that he settled with media giants; residuals from appearances in TV shows and films (including from ABC’s The View!) and a payment from his Screen Actors Guild Pension.
The numbers come from Trump’s annual financial disclosure, which was filed Tuesday evening and reviewed by The Hollywood Reporter. ...
The filing indicates that Trump intended to tender between $102,000-$280,000 worth of WBD shares, held in two different investment accounts. That is a relatively small portion of his total WBD holdings, which the filings indicate are valued at between $433,000 and $995,000.
Still, participating in the tender as his own government was reviewing the WBD deals underscores the inherent conflict that comes from trading stocks while running the country.
Ed: Interesting, but barely so. The figures here make it clear how minor the WBD transactions are to Trump's overall wealth and income. The bigger story has been Trump's crypto earnings, but he never pledged to put his business operations into a trust. Trump later said that fund managers run these accounts for him.

“America deserved 9/11” is a hell of a platform for democrats to be embracing.

Ed: I'm a lot more concerned about that than I am with Trump's crypto earnings.

Hollywood in Toto: Who would call Dwayne Johnson a coward to his face? ...
“Star Trek: The Next Generation” alum Wil Wheaton dubbed Johnson a “coward” for taking a step back from political posturing. Johnson endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 presidential campaign, perhaps unaware that the former Vice President was suffering from an undisclosed cognitive decline.
Johnson, noting how divisive his brief foray into politics proved, decided to stay out of the fray moving forward. It’s a smart move for his career. It’s also his choice.
That enraged Wheaton, a far-Left soul.
“So disappointing to find out he is such a coward.”
Ed: No more disappointing than finding out what a publicity-hungry douche canoe Wil Wheaton turned out to be.

Paula Scanlan at The Free Press: A man walked into my locker room at the University of Pennsylvania, ready to compete on the women’s swim team. He was six foot four, and had spent three years swimming on the men’s team. We were told to call him a teammate, and the adults in charge expected us to act like it was normal. Girls who didn’t were treated like the problem.
That’s what happened when Lia Thomas (né William) joined the Penn women’s swim team in 2021.
My teammates and I raised our concerns to our coaches and the school administration. Repeatedly. We said how unsafe it felt to shower and undress in front of a man, how unfair it was to practice and race against one. Whatever he believed about himself, it should not have been our job to affirm it.
Talking to the people running our program got us nowhere. Instead of protection, we were offered counseling to help us come to terms with undressing in front of a male. The athletic department called a meeting. Lia being on the team was non-negotiable, they said. Speak out and regret it for the rest of your life. We needed safety. Instead, we got something out of George Orwell’s 1984: Sit in the room long enough, until you agree the man in front of you isn’t really a man.
Ed: The entire exercise is straight out of Orwell. This is a must-read essay from someone who got damaged by this Queer Movement obsession that may finally get shut down after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of reality. Pair this one up with the Taibbi rant. "The cost is not abstract," Scanlan declares. It's all too real to girls and women who got pushed out of sports to validate a male's delusion.
