Columbia U President Begs Students to Disperse ... or Else?

In a Monday statement, Shafik expressed regret that her "small group of academic leaders," which had been in "constructive dialogue with student organizers" since Wednesday, was "not able to come to an agreement" to end the encampment. She urged students to "voluntarily disperse." ...

"For all of the reasons above, we urge those in the encampment to voluntarily disperse. We are consulting with a broader group in our community to explore alternative internal options to end this crisis as soon as possible."

Yeah, right. Shafik has set a number of deadlines for voluntary dispersal, only to quail at the idea of dispersing them involuntarily. Shafik simply has no credibility at this point, and won't until she allows the NYPD to forcibly take back the campus from the illegal occupation and those conducting a terrorist intimidation campaign against Jewish students and faculty.

Maybe Shafik's reached the end of her patience, but at this point, I don't think she's capable of drawing a red line and enforcing it. Or maybe she doesn't want to end this uprising.

Update: John will have more on this in a few minutes.
