A not so small proportion of our own population thinks it's flat too, all evidence to the contrary. This is what happens when you think that all of the Greeks and Romans who knew better are just some old dead white guys with no value whatsoever. As John notes, the Greeks not only knew the earth was round, they also had a pretty good idea of its size.
For those who think Christopher Columbus proved the world round, think again. The dispute was how big the round world was, and Columbus actually had it wrong. He thought it was much smaller and that Asia could be accessed more easily.
