Israel Proposes New Hostage Deal; Netanyahu Urges Mediators to 'Work Harder'

The delegation of Mossad, Shin Bet, and IDF officials who went to Cairo for hostage release and ceasefire negotiations was set to return to Israel on Tuesday afternoon, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.

As part of the talks, the mediators formulated a new proposal to present to Hamas.

"Israel expects the mediators to work harder with Hamas to promote negotiations in favor of a deal," said the PMO.

How much of this is PR, and how much of it is on the level? The errant strike on aid workers yesterday has escalated pressure on Netanyahu, no doubt, who announced a full-scale transparent investigation into their deaths. Hostage families are also ramping up their protests. Netanyahu would like a deal to free the remaining living hostages, but he's not going to end the war to get them. Hamas won't give them up without an end to the war. This impasse has existed since the end of the last pause, and it's not going to change.
