The New York State Court of Appeals ruled that former President Donald Trump does not have to come up with $464 million to appeal the judgment against him in his civil fraud trial, and must only provide a bond in the amount of $175 million.
Does this really help much? Trump may be able to get a bond in this amount, but the point is that the award is grossly out of joint with the fact that no one lost a dime on any of these deals. If they had lowered it to a nominal amount -- say, one million dollars -- I'd be more hopeful that the court grasps the stakes.
