Musk: Require Cognitive Tests for Presidents

"Passing a basic cognitive test should not be optional for someone who controls the nuclear football!" Musk wrote on X, the social media platform he owns.

Musk also posted "!" after someone replied to his post that on his inauguration day, Biden at 78 was older than any president who finished his last term. Ronald Reagan was 77 when he left office in 1989.

Sounds great in theory, and disastrous in practice. All this does is set up a system in which the medical establishment gets to pick and choose who can run for president. If COVID taught us anything, it's that the medical establishment can't be trusted with political policy, let alone using them as a star chamber for candidate qualifications. It's every bit as dangerous as setting up courts to make the same determination as to what constitutes "insurrection."

I've got a novel idea. How about letting the voters judge candidates on their cognition, and get stuck with their own choices? Granted, that's backfired at least one or two times, depending on your POV, but there's no substitute that doesn't create back-door authoritarianism.
