Sapp: Saints Have to Fire Jameis Winston for Insubordination (Update)

“Dennis Allen, Jameis Winston? ‘Eat a W’ guy? No,” Sapp began. “He can’t defy you. You gotta fire him on Monday.”

With time running low, Allen told his team to take knee at Atlanta’s one-yard line. Winston decided not to, and handed the ball to running back Jamaal Williams while in victory formation, allowing Williams to score his first touchdown of the season.

“These kids are out of their minds,” Sapp said. “We know Jameis Winston has got a screw loose. …How do you make a team decision, and the head coach has given you a directive?”

[Sapp’s correct. You can get away with that when you’re Tom Brady, although Brady was too classy to run up the score like that out of victory formation. When you’re best known for tossing 30 INTs in a season, it’s another matter entirely — or should be. Allen had to apologize on field and in the post-game presser for that stunt, and if Winston gets away with it, Allen’s authority is kaput. My prediction, though, is that Winston gets kept on the roster and Allen looks for another job. — Ed]

[CORRECTION: Saints, not Bucs. Sorry about that. — Ed]
