When NBC’s Kristen Welker inquired about Hunter Biden’s “surprise press conference” on Wednesday, Psaki, who previously served as President Biden’s first press secretary, commented on the potential impact.
Psaki noted, “If you’re sitting in the White House right now, you’re like ‘Please, Hunter Biden, we know your dad loves you. Please stop talking in public.’” She added that Hunter’s public statements were not beneficial and that the White House would “probably like him to go away right now,” even though the president prioritizes his love for his son over other considerations.
[We’d like all of them to go away, frankly, but Psaki is obviously correct here. This isn’t even a good legal strategy, but it’s even worse as a political strategy. The White House has been leaking its displeasure with Abbe Lowell and Hunter over their PR strategy, and Psaki undoubtedly hears earful of that from her former colleagues in the West Wing. — Ed]
