The Republican Party of Florida began the process of removing its chairman from his post as he faces an investigation for allegedly raping a woman who had been in a threesome sexual relationship with him and his wife, a co-founder of the Moms for Liberty conservative group that has opposed LGBT-related issues in schools.

In a series of unanimous votes in a closed-door meeting, the party’s executive board censured Christian Ziegler, removed his authority, dropped his pay to $1 and revoked his travel reimbursements, according to Michael Thompson, the chairman of the Lee County Republican Party in Southwest Florida.

The board plans to reconvene in January to remove him from office.
