Seven Texas women have joined a lawsuit over the state’s abortion laws, bringing the high-profile case’s plaintiff count to 22.
Exemptions for life-threatening medical emergencies in Texas’ abortion bans are too vague, the plaintiffs argue in the suit first filed by five patients in March. The case seeks to define what situations are considered “life-threatening,” including instances where the fetus will not survive after birth.
Joining the lawsuit is Amy Coronado, Kaitlyn Kash, D. Aylen, Kimberly Manzano and Dr. Danielle Mathisen — all of whom left Texas for abortions because of serious fetal diagnoses — and Kristen Anaya and Cristina Nuñez. Two obstetrician-gynecologists are also plaintiffs in the lawsuit, suing on behalf of their patients.
