Critics of President Joe Biden thought this would be the easiest of all efforts to hold somebody in the administration accountable – an effort to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for facilitating the worst border crisis this nation has ever seen.
Instead, a measure put forth by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to do just that failed, and it includes the usual caveat: X number of Republicans joined Democrats to kill the effort.
In this scenario, X=8, thanks to Reps. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), Ken Buck (R-CO), Darrell Issa (R-CA), Cliff Bentz (R-OR), Tom McClintock (R-CA), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), John Duarte (R-CA), and Mike Turner (R-OH).
The resolution accused Mayorkas of “fail(ing) to maintain operational control of the border, thereby violating the Secure Fence Act of 2006,” and suggested that he and his department had engaged in “willful admittance of border crossers, terrorists, human traffickers, drugs and other contraband.”
