Ten alleged mafiosos from the Gambino crime family were hit by the feds with a slew of racketeering charges for their violent attempts to take over the Big Apple’s carting and demolition industry, according to an indictment unsealed Wednesday.
The defendants — both made men and mob associates — are expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court on charges including racketeering conspiracy, extortion, witness retaliation, fraud and embezzlement.
“Today’s arrests reflect the commitment of this Office and our law enforcement partners, both here and abroad, to keep our communities safe by the complete dismantling of organized crime,” Breon Peace, the US Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, said in a statement.
[The Gambinos are still around? I thought the John Gotti prosecution had gutted the Mafia in New York, but apparently not. The wiseguys just wised up and stopped trying to be celebrities, it seems. — Ed]
